Hinged shutters
Hinged shutters are traditional window shutters: side-hung, functional and closely integrated with the façade as a visible design feature.

Appearance & system design
Side-hung and deliberately visible.
Hinged shutters shape the appearance of the façade even when open. The arrangement of the shutter leaves, infill and colour are therefore key design features.
Visual principle
The design is also shown schematically so that the differences can be recognised visually.
Assessment
Traditional function – modern design.
The material, infill, louvre arrangement, hardware and colour can be tailored to regional architecture, renovation projects or modern new builds.
PLANIGRAPH checks the masonry, hinge position, window position and ease of operation to ensure a harmonious façade appearance, whether the shutters are open or closed.

Imagery
Hinged shutters visibly transform a façade.
Whether traditionally divided, accented with colour or understated and modern, the visual impact of hinged shutters depends particularly on the interplay of divisions, proportions and colour.

Options
Which type of hinged shutter suits your home?

01
Adjustable louvres
Light and airflow can be controlled more flexibly – ideal when privacy and daylight need to be managed together.

02
Fixed louvres
A calm, clean look with a permanently fixed louvre angle. Suitable for a consistent façade appearance.

03
Solid panels
A larger solid surface and a more compact appearance. For buildings where the shutter should serve as a calm, understated façade element.

04
Colour & finish
From subtle to striking: colour, texture and decorative finishes often influence the overall effect just as much as the shape itself.
Planning considerations
Hinged shutters need space and secure fixing points.

01
Mounting
Check the fixings and existing masonry.

02
Opening clearance
Allow for space to either side, downpipes and façade features.

03
Design
Choose louvres, solid panels and a design that suit the architecture.

04
Operation
Assess manual or motorised operation on a project-by-project basis.
Motorisation
Open and close – without going to the window.
EHRET offers several drive solutions for hinged shutters. The right option depends on the installation conditions, the power supply, the preferred method of operation and whether a new installation or a retrofit is planned.

Wireless & smart home
VOLETRONIC io
Discreetly integrated into the hinged shutter and also designed for retrofitting existing shutters. Somfy io-homecontrol wireless technology allows other io devices to be integrated and provides feedback on the shutter position.

Self-sufficient
VOLETRONIC Solar
A solar-powered solution for new builds and renovations. It operates independently of the building’s power supply and, according to EHRET, remains operational even during a power cut.

Discreet
E-motion
The hinge drive is discreetly positioned on the hinge pin and opens or closes the shutters wirelessly. EHRET offers it for new builds and renovations, as well as for systems with one to four window shutters.

Colour & finish
Colour choice is part of the architecture.
Hinged shutters can blend into the façade – or create a deliberate contrast. Particularly on traditional buildings, this is often what gives them their distinctive character.
Coordinate the colour with the render, windows and roof
Review samples of matt and textured finishes early on
Assess wood effects or decorative finishes carefully

PLANIGRAPH planning
Window shutters are part of the architecture – not just a means of shading.
Proportions, panel divisions and colour have a lasting influence on the appearance of the façade. That is why we plan them in harmony with the windows, reveals and character of the building.
Match the hardware to the fixing surface and shutter weight
Confirm the opening angle and how the shutters will be secured when open
Review colour samples alongside the windows and façade
Consider maintenance and accessibility
