Side-sliding sectional doors: keep the ceiling clear and enjoy flexible access.
Instead of moving up beneath the ceiling, the door slides sideways along the garage wall. This is ideal where the ceiling is low or already in use – and practical when only a small opening is needed for pedestrian access.

When is it the right choice?
A side-sliding door solves different problems from a door that moves up beneath the ceiling.
01
Low ceiling
If the lintel or ceiling height is unsuitable for a conventional sectional door, a side-sliding system can provide an elegant solution to space constraints.
02
Ceiling already in use
Lights, roof beams, service pipes and cables or storage space remain usable because the door does not move into a horizontal position beneath the ceiling.
03
Quick access
You do not always need to open the door fully to take out a bicycle or a wheelie bin, or to pop into the garage.
04
Familiar panel appearance
As with a conventional sectional door, the door's colour, texture and decorative design can be chosen to complement the façade.
Technology
An unobstructed side wall is the key requirement.
The door is guided at floor level and slides along one side wall of the garage. In the Steinau range, the system includes double-skinned 42-mm panels, an aluminium track, robust hinges and a low-profile floor track.
- Keep the side wall clear along the door’s travel path at all times
- Check floor flatness and drainage along the guide track
- Set the partial opening position to suit everyday access
- Choose an operator and safety features suited to the door’s sideways movement

Pedestrian access
Three ways to access your garage comfortably on foot.

Option A
Separate side door
The most convenient access option if there is space in the structure for an additional door.

Option B
Partial door opening
If an additional door is not possible, the side-sliding sectional garage door can be opened just as far as needed.

Option C
Conventional sectional garage door
If you want to keep the side wall clear and there is sufficient space beneath the ceiling, a vertically opening door may be the better solution.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about side-sliding sectional garage doors.
How much side wall space does a side-sliding sectional garage door need?
The door leaf needs sufficient unobstructed space along one side wall to slide open. The exact dimensions depend on the door width, guide system and installation conditions, and are checked during the site measurement.
Can I open the door just part of the way?
Yes. This quick partial access is a typical advantage of a side-sliding sectional garage door when the garage is frequently accessed on foot.
Does the floor track get in the way?
Modern systems use low-profile tracks. Even so, the floor, drainage and dirt brought in must be taken into account in relation to how the garage is used.
Is the side-sliding sectional garage door insulated?
The Steinau range uses double-skinned panels filled with PU foam. The importance of thermal insulation depends on the garage and its connection to the building.
