Sectional garage doors: gain space, choose your style.

Sectional doors open vertically upwards. This keeps the driveway clear, makes good use of the opening and offers plenty of choice in thermal insulation, finish, colour and features.

Why choose a sectional door?

A common operating principle – but not necessarily the same specification.

The opening principle suits many garages. The quality of the solution depends on choosing the right combination of panels, hardware, seals, frame, finish and door operator.

01

More space in front of the garage

The door does not swing outwards. This is particularly practical for short driveways and when the car is parked close to the door.

02

Making the most of the opening

The vertical movement helps make good use of the clear opening width and height. The headroom, side clearances and hardware remain key factors.

03

Thermal insulation can be planned

Double-skinned, foam-filled panels and seals all round make sectional doors an attractive option for attached or temperature-controlled garages.

04

Extensive design freedom

Ribbing, smooth or textured surfaces, decorative finishes, colours and glazing can be tailored to both modern and traditional buildings.

Technology in everyday use

42-mm panels are a core standard at Steinau.

The Steinau range typically features double-skinned, PU foam-filled panels with sturdy side frames and permanently flexible seals. Depending on requirements, we also assess options with enhanced thermal performance, glazing and suitable access solutions.

  • Assess thermal insulation to suit a heated, attached or detached garage
  • Match the hardware and tracks to the ceiling, lintel and available installation space
  • Check the floor junction and drainage at an early stage
  • Select the operator according to size, weight and frequency of use

Design & comfort

Three decisions you will see every day.

A sectional garage door is technically sophisticated – but matching it to the building is what makes it the right solution.

Sectional garage door as part of a coordinated house façade

Façade

The garage door as part of the home

Proportions, colour and ribbing pattern should complement the windows, front door and façade layout.

Smooth surface of a garage door

Surface finish

Smooth, textured or with a decorative finish

The surface finish has a much greater effect on light reflection and appearance from a distance than a small colour swatch might suggest.

Before the quotation

Four questions quickly help narrow down the choice.

01

Is the garage attached to the house?

If so, we take a closer look at thermal insulation, seals and the connection to the building structure.

02

How much space is there above and beside the opening?

The headroom and side clearances determine which door gear will fit without unnecessary bespoke solutions.

03

How often is the garage accessed on foot?

A side door, a wicket door or a different type of garage door can make everyday use much easier.

04

What look should the door have?

Whether it blends discreetly into the façade or stands out as a design feature, this decision determines the surface finish, rib pattern and colour.

Comparison with commercial applications

More operating cycles, a larger opening or intensive commercial use?

In these cases, the specification of a domestic garage door is often no longer sufficient. For industrial applications, the door leaf, door gear, glazing, pedestrian access, operator and controls are designed to meet significantly higher demands.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about sectional garage doors

Is a sectional garage door also suitable for renovation projects?

Yes. The existing opening, headroom, side clearances and ceiling are the key factors. During the site survey, we check whether a standard solution will fit or which adjustments would be appropriate.

How important is insulation?

It needs to be assessed differently for a detached, unheated garage than for a garage attached directly to the house or kept at a controlled temperature. We therefore consider the door in the context of the building.

Can the garage door match the appearance of the front door?

Yes. Colours, decorative finishes and understated surface finishes can be carefully coordinated with the front door, windows and façade. Reviewing samples together usually gives a clearer picture than choosing from a catalogue.

Do I need a separate side door?

If bicycles, garden tools or the workshop are used frequently, a side door can make access much more convenient. Alternatively, we can assess whether a wicket door or a side-sliding sectional door would be suitable.

What happens to an existing door operator?

When modernising your garage door, we check the condition, safety and compatibility of the operator. An existing operator is only reused if it makes technical sense.
