Window or door damaged after a break-in?
After a break-in, security, a thorough assessment of the damage and an informed decision on repairs are essential. PLANIGRAPH inspects damaged windows, French doors, front doors and sliding doors, ensures they function as far as possible, and provides clear documentation to support the next steps.

Your service. Our craftsmanship.
What has been damaged?
We start with the specific damage.
Signs of levering, broken glass, bent profiles or destroyed locking mechanisms each require a different approach. Show us the damage in as much detail as possible.

Window or French door
Inspect the frame, sash, hardware and locking mechanism after forced entry.

Broken glass
Make the damaged glazing safe, record the glazing specification and prepare for replacement.

Door & locking mechanism
Check the lock, multipoint locking system, cylinder, hinges and frame.

Sliding door
Inspect the sliding gear, locking mechanism, profiles and glazing after an attempted break-in.

Get windows and doors closing securely again quickly
Make it secure first. Then make an informed decision.
Burglary damage presents both technical challenges and emotional distress. The older PLANIGRAPH page therefore rightly highlights two aspects: damaged windows and doors should close securely again as soon as possible, and complete replacement is not automatically necessary. We assess whether repairs are possible, check for consequential damage and consider further security measures.
- Check frames, sashes, profiles and hardware for deformation
- Assess the closing mechanism, locking mechanism and cylinder
- Record broken glass and damaged seals
- Clearly distinguish between repairs, temporary securing and replacement
Damage assessment
What technical checks are carried out after a break-in.
Levering marks are only the visible part. What matters is whether frames, hardware, locking points and glazing still function reliably.
01
Frames & profiles
Record jemmy marks, cracks, deformation and areas where material has broken away on timber, aluminium or plastic components.
02
Hardware & locking mechanisms
Check broken locking components, bent hardware, multipoint locking systems and lock cylinders for functionality and whether replacement is needed.
03
Glazing & glazing rebates
Record broken glass, damaged glazing beads or seals and prepare for a suitable glass replacement.
04
Security after a break-in
On request, we check adjacent windows and doors for suitable security upgrades, such as hardware and lockable components.
Documentation provides clarity
Photograph the damage – do not make hasty alterations.
Both an overview and detailed records are important for insurance, a quotation and a technical assessment. Only alter the damaged area as far as necessary to secure it immediately.

Repairs to the window or door
Repair or replace?
Damage from a break-in does not automatically mean you need a new window or door.
A repair may be sufficient
If the frames, opening leaves and main structure are intact, the hardware, locking mechanism, glazing or individual profile sections can be repaired selectively, depending on the system.
Replacement may be necessary
If there is severe distortion, the structure is destroyed or spare parts are unavailable, complete replacement may be the more robust solution. Until then, the opening must remain safe to use or be secured.

Well prepared
Your questions before the service appointment.
What should I photograph first after a burglary?
Photograph the entire affected opening, the damaged area from several distances, any broken glass and visible damage to the lock, hardware or frame. Put your safety first.
Does the entire window or door need to be replaced?
No. Whether a repair is worthwhile depends on the frame, opening leaf, profile, hardware, glazing and availability of spare parts. We check these before a decision is made on replacement.
Can you also repair broken glazing after a burglary?
Yes. We assess the damaged glazing and prepare for a suitable glazing replacement.
Do you help with documentation for the insurer?
We can clearly document the technical damage assessment and repair quotation. Please also check with your insurer which documents they specifically require.
Do you also repair damage to sliding doors and front doors?
Yes. Depending on the damage, we inspect windows, French doors, front doors, tilt-and-slide doors and lift-and-slide doors.
Can security be improved afterwards?
Yes. Once the damage has been repaired, we can assess whether additional security hardware, lock cylinders or other retrofits would be worthwhile.
