Front-mounted roller shutter
Front-mounted roller shutters are fitted externally in front of the window or façade. This makes them particularly suitable for modernisation, retrofitting and new builds where the roller shutter is to be planned independently of the window.

Appearance & system design
The externally visible box becomes part of the façade.
The visible assembly is a key factor in choosing the product. The box, guides, shutter curtain and colour are therefore coordinated not only technically, but also aesthetically.
Visual principle
The construction type and shutter curtain can be distinguished from one another at first glance.
Assessment
Flexible positioning in front of the window – without dictating the window construction.
The box remains outside as a separate component. Its shape, colour and installation position can therefore be deliberately designed to stand out or integrated into the façade as discreetly as possible.
PLANIGRAPH assesses the reveal, existing windows, insulation, guide rails and space for the box. With suitable systems, insect screens and motorisation can be included in the planning from the outset.
Modernisation
New build
External installation
Motorisation
Optional insect screen
Planning considerations
What needs to be clarified before making a choice?
01
Box position
Visible, within the reveal or structurally integrated into the façade.
02
Guides
Size the guide rails and connections to suit the window and substrate.
03
Shutter curtain
Choose the slat profile and specification according to the desired level of blackout, strength and design.
04
Operation
Specify motorised, radio-controlled, solar-powered or other control options to suit the project.
PLANIGRAPH planning
Choosing an externally mounted roller shutter is a decision about your façade.
Especially in renovation projects, how the box and guide rails are fitted to the existing building is crucial. Careful planning prevents thermal bridges, awkward proportions and future servicing problems.
Consider window connections and insulation together
Keep inspection access clear for maintenance and repairs
Coordinate the colour and box shape with the façade and windows
Clarify the electrical supply or solar-powered solution early on
Service & retrofitting
Already have a system? Our service team is here to help.
Product advice and service remain separate – but are directly linked.

Roller shutter repairs
Motor, shutter curtain, guide rails and operation of existing systems.

Controls & automation
Check or retrofit radio controls, handheld transmitters, sensors and drives.

Retrofitting sun protection
Add suitable solar shading technology to existing buildings.
